Is the microbiome of a cat different than a human?

The cat oral microbiome does contain different bacteria than a human mouth (more so than a dog's mouth). Streptococcus strains are not overly abundant in the feline mouth. Despite this, when included in a daily probiotic supplement, Streptococcus strains have been shown to reduce the abundance of bacteria causing periodontitis and bad breath in cats (study linked below). This is how our strains work in the cat mouth- while they may not be "native" species, they can survive and thrive when used in a daily probiotic resulting in the positive health effects we know and love- fresher breath, whiter teeth, and a healthier microbiome with fewer pathogens.
